Visit to the Lifeboat

We went to see the lifeboat. People who travel on the sea are helped by the lifeboat if they get in difficulty. At the end of this post you can watch a programme about a Severn class lifeboat.  It is the same kind at the Kirkwall lifeboat. It can roll over in rough weather!
Pudsey came to say "Hello". He likes the Lifeboat too.

The lifeboat crew sit here.  Why do you think they wear seatbelts?

The coxswain sits here.  What does he do?

What did it feel like to be at the stern of the lifeboat?

Talk about what you see in this picture.

Can you talk about the logo.  What are the letters for?

The white boxes are life rafts.  Why do you think they are here?

Talk about what you see in this picture.

Why do the crew wear this?

The mechanic needs this control panel.  What do you think it shows him?

The Navigator uses this desk.  What do you think he does?

What do you think this boat is for?  Why is the van meeting it?

When Evan moved the joystick, everyone saw a different picture on the monitor. Why?

What does this sign tell you?

Can you talk about any of the things in this picture?

What are these boats used for?

What do you think this box is for?

Why do you think this list is outside the Lifeboat station?

Can you see the phone number to get help?

Why do the crew need these clothes?

Lots of different types of boats are used by the RNLI.

We watched a short video that showed how a a man and his daughters were helped by the lifeboat.

Dupre Strutt organised our trip.  He is the Lifeboat mechanic.  He makes sure the lifeboat is always working properly.
On CBBC Hero Squad you can watch a lifeboat like the one in Kirkwall.  Click here to watch the programme.
